A traditional Ghanaian marriage ceremony has several components>
Expect loud music and celebration.
Spokespersons from each family engage in playful, symbolic negotiations, with the bride’s family’s acceptance vital.
The bride is brought in and asked multiple times if she agrees to marry the groom, often after decoys are presented to the groom.
Couples and guests wear colorful, regal fabrics like Kente, or colors chosen by the bride and groom’s families. The bride is often in a bright Kente cloth and the groom wears a matching kente outfit.
A formal presentation of gifts (bride price/dowry) is made by the groom’s family to the bride’s family, which must be accepted.
After consent, blessings are given by elders, and the groom places a ring on the bride’s finger.
We will transition into cocktail hour and then to the reception. There will be a brief exchange of vows at the beginning of the reception followed by dinner and music and dance.
